Are There Firefighters In Heaven?
"Please tell me Mommy,"
He said to me one Day.
"Why did Daddy have to go away?"
I knew the day was coming; I had it all planned out.
The day I'd tell our son about the fire his Dad put out.
"He was as proud as proud can be." I started to explain
" He loved his job and did his best, 'Firefighter' was his name."
"He'd drive the trucks with sirens loud." His big eyes looked up at me.
"Tell me Mommy, tell me more." Tears in my eyes made it hard to see.
"That day your Daddy went to work was just another day.
He hugged you tight and said goodbye and he went on his way."
"About noon time they got a call. 'We've got a bad one boys!'
And off they went to do their job, the yard was filled with toys."
"Daddy went into that burning house and brought two kids outside.
The kids cried for their puppy so again he went back inside,"
"What went wrong from there I guess, is something we'll never know.
Your Daddy gave his life that day for people he didn't know."
This little boy with eyes so big looked up at me that day
"He was a firefighter, Mommy, he wouldn't have it any other way."
My heart filled with such pride and joy as my son made it seem so clear.
He was a firefighter and answered the call; he did so without fear.
"He got those kids out Mommy," I finally heard him say.
"He tried to to save their puppy. He's a hero in every way."
"Your Daddy would be so proud of you because you seem to know
The life of a firefighter can be scary and Daddy knew his life could go."
"Mommy," he said, whispering now "Daddy's not here anymore.
Do they have firefighter's in Heaven, Mommy?"
"They do now, honey, I'm sure."
